E-Way Bill under GST
What is GST?
GST stands for goods and service tax. The goods and services tax (GST) is a value-added indirect tax levied on most goods and services sold for domestic consumption. The GST is paid via GST Return by consumers, but it is remitted to the government by the businesses selling the goods and services. In this article, we will be discussing all E-Way Bill under GST.
What is GST E-Way Bill?
GST E-Way bill is a GST return used when goods and services are transported from one place to another. It is a must for the transporter to carry a GST E-Way Bill when moving the goods from one place to another. E-Way Bill stands for the electronic bill also a person registered under GST is not allowed to transport goods that exceed Rs.50,000 without an E-Way Bill. E Way Bill is generated on waybill gst.gov.in.
When a person needs to issue a E-Way bill under GST?
When there is movement of goods and services which exceeds value of Rs.50,000 a person needs to issue E-Way Bill under GST. An E-Way Bill is generated by the person who is registered or unregistered and the transporter. A registered person has an option to generate E-Way Bill under GST if the amount of the goods is less than Rs.50,000. In case of transporter if the transporter is carrying the goods via rail air water, Road etc is mandatory for him to generate an E way Bill under GST ,if not generated by the supplier.
Various Documents Required for Generating an E way Bill
- Challan which is related to the supply of the respected goods
- Invoice or bill of supply
- ID of the transporter and vehicle number
Use of the E-Way Bill is mandatory in all the states for the movement of inter-state goods. E-Way bill operations are enabled on a trial basis for the intra-state movement of goods for Odisha. Roll out of E-Way Bill system for intra-State movement of goods in the States / Union Territory of Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Pondicherry.
Validity of E-Way Bill
It is very important to know when your e way bill is validated and the validity depends on the distance of the goods which have to be transported. Generally it is one day up to 200 Km (As per the latest amendment).
Modes of Generating E-Way Bill under GST
E- way bill can be generated by any of the following methods which are:
- Use web based systems- http://ewaybill.nic.in
- Using SMS based facility
- Using services of GST Suvidha Provider
Who Should Generate E-way Bill under GST?
Registerd, Unregistered and Transporters should use the E-Way bills. Let’s see what is their role:
Registered person: It is known that E-Way Bill is registered and is necessary while carrying goods for more than 500 crores. But the registered persons can also use E-Way Bill for the goods which is less than 500 crores.
Unregistered person: Unregistered people are required to initiate the E-Way Bill. However, where a supply is initiated by an unregistered one to a registered person, the receiver has to make sure that every compliance is met as if they were the supplier.
Transporters: Transporters carrying commodities by road, air, rail, etc. are also required to initiate E-Way Bill in case if the supplier has not initiated it.
