Looking for the updates of the 6th GST Council Meeting? Here are the most important ones-
The 6th meeting of the GST Council was held on 11 December 2016 in Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, New Delhi under the Chairpersonship of the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley.
The meeting was held with an objective of discussing the carry forwarded agenda of the 5th GST Council Meeting namely namely the draft Model CGST/SGST law. And also the council discussed the minutes of the last meeting in the 6th GST council meeting.
In the said meeting the council discussed the model GST and SGST in details. The council in the 6th GST Council meeting approved the provisions of chapter X to chapter XX i.e. sections 47 to 97 and section 98 & 99 of chapter XXI.
It was also agreed that during legal vetting, if the Union Law Ministry had reservations or comments on certain provisions of the Model GST Law or suggested changes in the language of the law, these would be brought before the Council for discussion and approval before placing the draft law in the Parliament.
The 6th Meeting of the GST Council was initially scheduled for 2 days, i.e. 11-12 December 2016. However, during the meeting on 11 December 2016, the Hon’ble Minister from West Bengal pointed out that the date of the festival of Eid Milad un-Nabi had been changed from 13 December 2016 to 12 December 2016. After discussion, the Council agreed to cancel the meeting scheduled for 12 December 2016.
