What are the new functions of the GST Portal?
Introduction
The GST portal has undergone several improvements in 2021 to make GST return filing easier and more successful. As the portal continues to add new features, it’s important for taxpayers to stay up-to-date to avoid missing out on important compliances that could result in receiving notices. The main focus of this blog is to highlight the new functionalities recently added to the GST portal.
What is GST (Goods and Service Tax)?
GST stands for goods and service tax. The goods and services tax (GST) is a value-added indirect tax levied on most goods and services sold for domestic consumption. The GST is paid via GST Returns by consumers, but it is remitted to the government by the businesses selling the goods and services.
What is the New functionality on GST portal?
Let us take a look at the new functionalities that have been introduced on the GST portal, which are listed below in tabular form:
Sr. No. |
Forms/ Function | Functionality made available to the taxpayers |
1. |
SPICe -AGILE Form |
Persons/ applicants applying for new registration in GST, through MCA portal in SPICe-AGILE Form, can now opt for Aadhaar Authentication (while applying for registration).
|
2. |
RESET button enabled on GST Portal |
Regular taxpayers, regardless of whether they file their returns quarterly or monthly, now have access to a convenient feature on the GST Portal. The feature comes in the form of a RESET button available in Form GSTR-1/IFF. This new functionality allows taxpayers to delete all the saved data for a particular return period, provided they have not yet submitted or filed their Form GSTR-1/IFF. |
3. |
Refund applications by taxpayers in QRMP scheme |
Taxpayers who use the QRMP scheme to file their taxes quarterly can now request refunds only once every three months. If they try to request a refund at any other time, they’ll get an error message and won’t be able to proceed with filing the application on the GST Portal. |
4. |
Audit |
Taxpayers will now be able to access all notices and reports issued by tax officials through a section called “Additional Notices and Orders.” This means that taxpayers can respond to audit notices and upload documents directly through the portal.
They can also choose to accept or reject tax liabilities, based on the any discrepancies outlined in the notice or audit report (Form GST ADT-02).
In addition, taxpayers can apply for an adjournment or request an extension of the audit date from the tax officer. |
5. |
Form GST DRC-03 |
Taxpayers can now make voluntary payments through Form GST DRC-03 by selecting one of two options from a dropdown list: 1. Liability mismatch between GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, or 2. Input Tax Credit (ITC) mismatch between GSTR-2A/2B and GSTR-3B. |
6. |
Status of Aadhaar Authentication or E-KYC |
In the Search Taxpayer functionality, users will now be able to view the status of Aadhaar Authentication or E-KYC verification of the searched GSTIN. This feature is available both pre-login and post-login.
This means that users can easily check whether the Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) they are searching for has been authenticated or verified by the Income Tax Department. |
7. |
Auto-generation of Form GST DRC-01 |
According to Rule 142(1) of the CGST/SGST Rules, when a tax official issues a notice under Section 73, 74, 129, 130, etc., to a taxpayer, it is mandatory to serve a summary of the notice in Form GST DRC-01.
To facilitate this process, the GST Portal has implemented an auto-generation feature for Form GST DRC-01. Taxpayers can now access this form in the Additional Notices & Orders sub-menu on the portal. |
