The Company Fresh Start Scheme (CFSS 2020) was introduced by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to give defaulting companies a chance to file their pending returns and forms without paying heavy penalties. The scheme allowed companies to rectify past non-compliance and become fully compliant with the Companies Act, 2013.
Under CFSS 2020, companies that had defaulted in filing annual returns or financial statements could file belated documents with normal filing fees only, avoiding additional penalties. Once the forms were filed, MCA issued immunity certificates, protecting companies and directors from legal proceedings.
The scheme provided a one-time opportunity for all active and defaulting companies to clean up their records and start afresh in compliance with Indian corporate laws.
