The FSSAI stands for Food Standards and Safety Authority of India, which is the supreme authority responsible for regulating and supervising food safety. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a legal authority that offers a food license to all food business operators (FBO) in India. All the FBOs must follow all the rules and regulations of FSSAI for food quality control.
Any legal entity involved in handling food items must obtain an FSSAI Food License before starting a food business. This includes businesses engaged in manufacturing, repacking, re-labeling, storage, warehousing, transporting, supplying, wholesaling, marketing (trading), retailing, e-commerce (online food sales), exporting, importing, catering, operating canteens, dhabas, restaurants, hotels, and more. In FSSAI terms, these entities are referred to as Food Business Operators (FBO).

Once we have all the documents in hands, and once our Compliance manager have verified all the documents, we will create a User ID on FSSAI portal and start to apply for new application. After Creating a new application, we will have to select the business type and eligibility criteria for your food business and on the basis of that we will prepare and file Form A or B for your Food / FSSAI License registration.
Once we have filed the form A or B including basic details and selection of food product category, we will file all the necessary documents which have to be self attested by you. After that we will submit the application along with the prescribed fees. Upon successful submission, a 17 digits application reference number will be generated for future reference for your Food License / FSSAI License registration.
If the holder of an FSSAI license passes away, the heir or legal representative can transfer the license. The representative or family member must apply to the concerned authority to have the license transferred into their name.
Restaurants, eateries, and food joints are issued a Food License, often referred to as a Restaurant License. The process of obtaining a Restaurant License is the same as for any other Food License. These establishments must prominently display their FSSAI registration during business hours to ensure it is visible to customers, employees, and other stakeholders.

In case, an FBO is found to be Partially Compliant or Non-Compliant with the FSSAI regulations, during an inspection, the Inspecting Officer or the accredited agency may issue an Improvement Notice or suspend its Food Safety Certificate, depending upon the degree of Non-Compliance.

If you didn’t apply for renewal 30 days before the expiry of your existing Food Safety Certificate, a penalty of Rs. 100 per day will be levied, during that 30 day period. In case, your FSSAI number has already expired, you will have to go through the complete process of applying for fresh registration.
