DGFT Certificate

All you Need to Know

What is DGFT Certificate?

The DGFT full form is Directorate General of Foreign Trade. It is a government body under the Ministry of Commerce that regulates and promotes exports and imports in India. A DGFT Certificate is an official registration required for businesses involved in international trade.

To apply for a DGFT Certificate, companies must often use a DGFT Form available on the DGFT portal. In most cases, a DGFT DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) is also needed, as it is mandatory for filing applications online. The DGFT digital signature ensures authenticity and secure submission of documents. Without this certificate, businesses cannot obtain an Import Export Code (IEC) or carry out foreign trade legally.

Types of DGFT Certificates / Registrations

  • Status Holder Certificate: Certificate granted to exporters who achieve high export performance and are recognized under star ratings in the Foreign Trade Policy.

  • Nominated Agency Certificate: Issued to exporters with four-star or five-star status, allowing them to source inputs from nominated agencies either in advance or on a replenishment basis.

  • Free Sale and Commerce Certificate: Confirms that a product is freely sold in India and manufactured domestically, often required for exports (excluding medical devices or instruments).

  • End User Certificate (EUC): Certifies that the buyer is the final recipient of imported items and will not re-export them, ensuring compliance with international trade rules.

  • DGFT Identity Card: An identity document issued by DGFT to importers and exporters, helping in certificate management and trade facilitation.
