The Income Tax Department gives everyone a 10-digit code called a Permanent Account Number (PAN). People use their PAN card for financial activities and paying taxes. It also helps the department track financial transactions. This article explains what an E-PAN is, how to download it using the NSDL Portal, and answers frequently asked questions about E-PAN card downloads.
The digital version of your physical PAN card, known as an e-PAN, is used for e-verification and saves your PAN information on your device. To get a new PAN, Indian citizens and NRIs must fill out Form 49A, while foreigners use Form 49AA. Submit these forms with required documents to the Income Tax PAN Services Unit. You can apply for an e-PAN through NSDL or UTIITSL portals, or quickly get one using your Aadhaar card.
The NSDL portal has two ways to download an e-PAN card: for PANs issued in the last 30 days and for PANs issued more than 30 days ago. Here’s how to download it in both cases:
Download an e-PAN card (for PANs issued within the last 30 days)
Note: The password for the PDF file you just downloaded is your date of incorporation / date of birth / date of formation in DDMMYY.
Download an e-PAN card (applicable to PANs issued more than 30 days ago)
The following is a step-by-step approach for downloading the e-PAN from UTIITSL’s official website:
On the e-PAN, the following information is included:
You can try restarting the page and entering your information again to get another OTP. If you still haven’t received your OTP, you can contact UIDAI.
No, you must have an active Aadhaar card to apply for a PAN.
You can download your old PAN Card by using the Income Tax Department of India’s ‘Reprint PAN Card’ option from either the NSDL or UTITTSL Portal.
Like a traditional PAN Card, an e-PAN Card is a valid document.
No, there cannot be more than one PAN at a time. Having more than one PAN is illegal and may result in a penalty.
