Geo-coding is the process of assigning geographic coordinates to a specific address location. In India, Geo-coding has been implemented in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to help businesses identify the exact location of their principle place of business.
In GST, the Geo-coding feature is available for all taxpayers. The system generates the geocoded address based on the latitude and longitude information provided by the taxpayer. The taxpayer can either accept the system-generated geocoded address or update it as per their requirements. The geocoded address details are saved separately under the “Principal Geocoded” tab on the GST portal. The Geo-coding feature is a one-time activity, and revision in the address is not allowed once submitted. It is available for normal, composition, SEZ units, SEZ developers, ISD, and casual taxpayers who are active, canceled, and suspended.
If the Geocoded Address is either not available on the screen or you do not agree with the displayed Geocoded address, steps to update the GEO Code are listed below:
In conclusion, updating your Geocoded Address in MCA involves a straightforward process of moving the pin on the map, selecting the address from the options, and entering the mandatory fields. By following the above steps, you can easily update your Geocoded Address and proceed with your application submission.
