on January 31, 2020, late at night around 10:30 PM via a tweet, CBIC announced the extension of Due dates of GSTR 9 and GSTR 9C for the Financial year 2017-18. Now all the taxpayers under GST (Goods and Service Tax) will be able to file their GSTR 9 & GSTR 9C in a staggered manner for different groups of States to 3rd, 5th, and 7th February 2020.

Since a lot of time Traders and Industrialists faced a lot of difficulties in filing the form GSTR 3B. Not only that but due to one filing date of GSTR 3B for all the taxpayers, the IT systems faced pressure during the filing date that was the 20th of every month. Considering the same the Government has set up a new schedule, all businesses with 5 crore or more sales will continue to file GST returns related to supplies by the 20th day of every month while those with lesser sales will get time till the 22nd or the 24th day of the month depending on which state they are from.

The Ministry of Finance announced the Due date for amnesty to be extended till January 17, 2020. Earlier the date was set to January 10, 2020, but there was a huge response to this waiver which has been very encouraging and which led to a reduction in unmatched credit.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ) has extended the due date for filing of GSTR 3B for the month of November 2019. The extended date for filing Form GSTR 3B is 23rd December 2019.

There is no rate hike for GST as of now. The decision is taken to extend the due date for filing of GSTR 9 & GSTR 9C. Also the due date for filing of GST return is extended. The GST Council has decided to waive late fees for taxpayers who have not filed returns from July 2017 to November 2019 if all the returns are filed by January 10, 2020.
